5 Things to Consider Before Hiring a Wedding DJ

Many couples choose to hire a DJ to help make their wedding celebration even more enjoyable. With music and entertaining commentary, you can make sure that your guests are entertained all day long. There are many DJs out there that can help you make your wedding day or night more magical. If you're considering hiring a wedding DJ, here are some things to consider before doing so:

Check to See If Your Vendor Has a Preferred DJ

Before you make a list of potential DJs and narrow down your options, check to see if your venue has a list of preferred vendors. If they have a DJ on the list, it's worthwhile to check in with that DJ and see if they're available. A DJ that regularly works at a venue will know what to expect. They will know what equipment is provided or what they need to bring, and they will already be aware of potential issues or concerns. 

Meet the DJ

It's always a good idea to meet the DJ before you hire them. Some companies may have you dealing with a staff member who books and answers questions and then your actual DJ shows up on the wedding day, and that is the first time that you meet them. You'll want to know who will be doing the work on your wedding day, and you'll want to feel comfortable about it.

Be Open About Your Expectations

Some DJs like to be in control while others are more flexible and allow the couple to choose the music. You'll want to make your expectations clear early on so that you chose the right DJ for your needs and goals.

Check the Backup Plan

Most DJs will have a backup plan if they're unable to attend the wedding or if something happens that causes issues. You'll want to see what backup plan is in place to make sure that you're all on the same page if your DJ suddenly can't work the day of your event. 

Ask About Attire

It's also a good idea to check and see what your DJ plans to wear. If you want them to wear a tux, for example, you should make that known early so there are no surprises on your wedding day.
